Secret of the Peaceful Warrior
Secret of the Peaceful Warrior: A Story About Courage and Love – this book was written in 1991 for children. This award-winning book — one of several recommended by book chains to help children understand principles of conflict resolution — resulted from a wonderful collaboration between Dan and artist/illustrator Taylor Bruce. It tells the story of a young boy who learns to face his fears (and a neighborhood bully) not by fighting or running away, but by applying a wonderful secret. Aided by a young girl and an old man named Socrates, Danny learns what it means to live like a peaceful warrior.

I love this book. I can read it a thousand times to/with my daughter. It’s filled with heart, and simple wisdom. This book is great for everyone from athiest, or secular parents to deeply religious parents of all faiths…and of course to all of the rest of us that lie somewhere in the beautiful middle. This book is just great. You will not regret buying this book for your son, daughter, niece, nephew, granddaughter, or grandson. I love the pictures, the flow, the simplicity, the message, and well I just love this book…I just wish that Millman wrote more children’s books, and perhaps one with a girl protagonist…perhaps Daniela Miller, or something like that. But if you are thinking about buying this book then do it. I am glad that I did. I was concerned at first about whether I would agree with the spirituality of the book, but low and behold there is nothing in this book to disagree with. It’s all heart. Thanks Dan..now get to work on another one with a girl protagonist.

I just read this book last night with my son (age 9)and wanted to send it as gift to his friends as gifts (for those big boys and their family) My son picked this book (and another one by the same author / illustrator) “Quest for the crystal Castle”)at a special store in Vermont (where I was trying orgnic cotton clothings). He seemed very engrossed for a long time, and I bought both recognizing the words”peaceful worrier” (had been mentioned a few times this summer). Last month, I myself become a fan of Dan Millman’s “Sacred Journey of a peaceful worrior”. It was definitely on my list of “books that changes life”. So, I was glad to read these two children version of “peaceful worrior ” book with my son last night. I found it a wonderfully written children book with insight and enlightment that my son really loved. He is an avid reader and has been reading lots of great novels, yet Dan’s books still inspire him to a very deep level. We both appreciate the books greatly and start thinking about giving these books as gift to his playgroup friends since babyhood.
